Moon Boots- An Enduring Fashion Trend
There are few things in fashion world which can stay as the 'in' thing for more than one season. So, when something lasts for nearly four decades, it can certainly be considered as an enduring fashion trend. One such enduring fashion trend is Moon Boots which first came in 1969 to the fashion ramp and have since carved a niche for themselves in the market.

Over the decades, Moon Boots have undergone significant changes. From a humble start by Italian designer, Giancarlo 'Papa' Zanatta today these boots have made it really big in the fashion world. The shoes were practically destined for great heights, since they were meant for slopes when Papa designed them. As of 2010, Moon Boots are being worn by people of all places, particularly women and they are not limited to production by Tecnica which made them first. Today a number of fashion houses have their own versions of these shoes.

As told by Giancarlo Zanatta, the first inspiration of these shoes was the NASA designed shoes that Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin wore to the surface of the moon. This is in fact the source of both the design and name of these shoes. Zanatta says that he was particularly inspired by the futuristic looks of the shoes and designed them so that they can be worn when people were skiing. The shape of the shoes would prevent snow from entering them and at the same time protect the wearer from getting 'cold feet' and frost bite.

One reason that these shoes have gained eternal acceptance among the fashionistas from Paris to Peru and Tokyo to Toronto is that they do not differentiate between the left and right foot. You can practically have shoes with 'two left feet' and use them without having anything to worry about. In addition to this, the shoes are good enough to be worn even in the mildest of cold and warm enough to be worn when things are freezing outside.

These shoes have found great acceptance in any place which has a lot of snow both- as a utility and as a fashion trend. It is therefore now no wonder that the specialized European and Swiss lines of big fashion houses like Chanel, Dior, Marc Jacobs etc have Moon Boots prominently featured in them. In addition to this, various bespoke fashion houses are also making custom Moon Boots which fit the specific requirements of their user. Being bespoke, these shoes do cost a bomb but if you know your fashion trends, you need not worry about the price of Moon Boots. After all, it is all about looking the best and looking the best definitely comes at a price!
