The Essential Features Of Dance Shoes

Comfort is the most essential requirement for dance shoes. This is true whether you are going ballroom dancing or a Salsa practice session. Women go for exotic stiletto shoes while men go for shoes having suede soles.

The stilettos make the women feel taller and elegant in front of the men they dance with. The heel of their shoes can be anywhere between 1 inch to 8 inches in height and in women endowed with long, slender and beautiful legs, they accentuate men's glances towards that area. However dancing in high heeled shoes is not easy for women, but comes with great practice.

Shoes for tap dancing need to be equipped with a metal plate on their soles to enable them to emit a distinct sound when tapped. For a ballroom dance, men choose Oxford black shoes with laces that typically have a flat heel. The shoes may need 1 to 2 inch Cuban heels for a Latin dance. The shoe style needs to compliment your dress.

Women's shoes for shoe styles tend to vary with the specific dance form. A pair of shoes for a cha cha is much different from those worn for a waltz, foxtrot, or swing dance. The heel styles can vary from slim to a flared one.

Women who are new to a dance form should look to buy one pair of practice shoes that will work for many different dance styles. After they successfully master a particular style, they can then buy shoes specific for that dance form.

For a ball room dance, it is important to have shoe soles that will grip and not slip on the smooth floor surface. However, at the same time slidability needs to be retained. The soles of dance shoes are normally thinner than normal street shoes. The fit of the shoes needs to be just comfortable, neither too loose nor too tight. The toes need to be fitted in comfortably, without feeling obstructed in any way or stressed.

For a Swing dance, wear shoes that are flexible but have grip, and are both comfortable and soft. The reason is that the dance involves a number of turns and twists. Never wear your Swing dancing shoes for casual walking. Their life will become shortened that way.

Ballet shoes need to have a full suede sole made from leather. This feature allows the perfect pointe to work beyond what is known in ballet dance parlance as the split-sole. It gradually creates a beautifully curved and elongated foot when you switch to split-sole slippers. These last are an intermediate wear between the ballet shoes that a beginner wears and the pointe shoe which is the ultimate objective.
